The EXPLORATORIUM has used gelatin for the medium, but it did not work for more than 3 days. We tried various materials like Phenol, Hypo etc but they all lasted for short periods. Finally we used few drops of "Cutting Oil" in water . We top up once in two weeks with a drop of oil.
